Each of us has a lot of goals we want to achieve. We set these goals yearly, monthly, weekly or even daily. It helps us to be more focused and driven to it. What setting are you following for your goals? Personally, I have those settings with me. I have this yearly, monthly, weekly and daily goals. It helps me more focused and driven to it. But it doesn’t matter! Whatever setting you are following, it is important to have a list of goals you want to achieve. It doesn’t have to be the same setting as with me. Whatever works for you, then do it. Find the sweet spot. The real question is, have you written down your goals already? If not, maybe this is the time for you to get started before going through the rest of the article. Get a notebook or open an app on your smartphone then write it down there. The idea is that you will have a list of things you want to achieve. No matter where you put it, as long as you have it. That’s fine! And if you already have your goals with you, that’s great to hear! Keep going.

Moving forward, as we go through our goals every day. There will be days where it is not the day to reach it. You may be in an emotional or physical imbalance or just don’t feel like it. We all go through there. We all feel the same feeling at some point in time. But there is something I want to share with you that I’ve learned from the greats.

Victim Of The Environment

As I said a while ago, we all feel the same feelings at some point. Not merely the same but you get what I want to say. We’ve all been there. If we’ve all been there, how come others have overcome it? Do those people have super-powers? Oh, no JM, they might have more resources than me and that’s why they have done it and I have not. That could be true but I want to fight back on that argument and say I am not a victim of my environment.

Grabbing one of the famous sayings:

If you were born poor, it’s not your fault. But if you die poor it is. — Bill Gates

No matter if it’s business or something that you want to achieve, it is not the fault of your environment that you were not able to achieve the thing that you want to. You always have a choice and moves to make in order to do that. I know it may sound easy, but you’re not just committed to it and just giving out excuses.

Most of the time, we have more excuses than our own goals because of what is on our environment. We complain a lot that our environment sucks and that’s why we can’t achieve our goals. Don’t get me wrong, having the right environment will actually help you go further. But what I am trying to say is that even if you don’t have the right environment, you will still reach it if you are committed to it.

I remembered a few days ago, the gym is not available but I needed to workout. I have two dumbbells and one bar that is made up of cement at home. Not really heavy but can make the job done. Thoughts are saying, skip working out and do it next time. You still have a lot of days to do it. You can work out at home, but it’s not sufficient and effective. You’ll just waste your time. The equipment that you have will not give you enough drive. Skip it.

A lot of thoughts coming on, but I did what I am telling you to be. I didn’t let myself be the victim of my environment. The equipment that I have with me may not be sufficient and effective compared to the gym but it can make the job done. It’s much better to have small progress compared to zero progress. After an hour and a half, I’ve crushed my workout and it was satisfying maximizing the space and equipment that I have. The lesson is, you will not always have the right setting and equipment on hand and it’s up to you on how to maximize the given space and equipment. You must fight your way up. I’m telling you what you need to be, be committed and be not a victim of your environment.

Your Goals, Your Work

Last year, I’ve set a goal to myself that I need to publish monthly articles here on Medium. I told myself to just write and share the stories I’ve been through on my life. At first, I was hesitant to do it because I’m not sure if I can do it. My life doesn’t have a lot of events that I can share that everyone will find interesting. But one thing is for sure, I reflect a lot and maybe that’s something I can share on. I took the challenge and I set my mind to it. I didn’t mind if there will be people that will read it. What’s important to me is to accomplish my goal.

Fast forward this year, I’ve completed it and now going to this year with another goal of monthly writings. It wasn’t easy to accomplish it. There are days I don’t feel like writing and I don’t know what to say. But I did what I’m telling you to be, be committed to your goals. No matter what you are feeling if your goal is on the line, do it and work for it.

Monthly writings may sound easy to others but I don’t mind them giving their own opinion. It’s just that once you have a goal, be sure to focus on it and work on it. Don’t let your goals have some sort of external validation from other people. If you want it, go get it. If that’s your goal, then it’s only yours.

It’s Uncomfortable But It Builds Up

Months ago, I started a movement called “OurDay” with the goal of helping an individual focus on the good today. A goal of sending one positive thought in the morning to a random person. It was a movement that I started at our office. I needed to write one positive thought to each and everyone to accomplish that goal.

It was one of the things that I look forward to every day whenever I go to the office because I know I’ll be helping someone through my words. And so I ran the movement, wrote a lot of thoughts to each and every one. Some may disagree or agree with it because we all have our own perspective but that’s fine! I don’t expect each and everyone to agree with everything I write.

There are also days where I don’t feel like giving out because I’m shy to go to their desk and give a note randomly. It feels awkward bothering them just to give a note. There are times I would just give it out then smile, then go away. It was funny looking back. But then again, I never stop. Even if it’s uncomfortable I still push myself to do it and send it out. I may feel shy sending it out, but my shyness doesn’t equal to the commitment I have on that movement. I did what I’m telling you to be, be committed to your goals. It doesn’t matter if it feels uncomfortable as long as you do it. Whenever you continue doing it, you build trust and confidence on yourself. With a lot of trust and confidence on yourself it will help you drastically achieving the goals that you want.

Bringing It All Together

On our journey to achieving our goals and dreams, the bad days will never be out of reach. It will always be there and will be. The bad day is a symbol of perseverance on how much we want our goals and dreams. How much we are fighting for it. The bad day is part of the days that we will be attending to in order to achieve our goals and dreams. It will not always be sunshine, you will not always feel good, you will not always have the right resources on your environment. A lot of things will go against you and your goals and dreams. There will be no perfect days. We are the ones who create the perfect days for our goals and dreams. Our goals and dreams will be created on bad days.

Avoid giving out a lot of excuses to your goals and dreams because that will not help or move you one inch forward towards it. It will actually move you 2 steps backward. I’m telling you what I did from my stories above, be committed to your goals no matter what. It will build trust and confidence on ourselves. Having trust and confidence on ourselves will allow us to destroy anything that is going on our way.

When you need a space to work out or practice physically, maximize the space even if it’s small. The equipment that you have are not excuses for you to skip the workout session. Maximize the opportunity and the equipment that you have. It’s always better to have small progress rather than zero progress. I’m telling you one more time what you need to be. Be committed to your goals and don’t look back.

May you reach your dreams.
